To use this site, am I required to create a volunteer account?
It is strongly recommended that you register with this site before you begin searching for volunteer opportunities. You will not be able to Express Interest in a volunteer opportunity without first registering with the site. 

How do I create and manage a volunteer account for this site?
It's simple. Get registered first. There are a few things you need to remember as you register.

  • All passwords must be at least 8 characters long

  • The email address you enter when you register with the site will forever be your username, even if you change email addresses.

  • Once you enter your information and click Submit you will be automatically logged into your account.  

This system is very powerful with a lot of great features. We strongly recommend you watch a video about account creation and management!

After I have created a volunteer account, how do I search for volunteer opportunities?
There are many ways to search for volunteer oppotunities that will meet your interests, skills and the time you have to give. We recommend you watch a video about searching for volunteer opportunities first. You can also Find Opportunities to get started. 

How do I sign up for volunteer opportunities?
You must be logged in to your volunteer account. All opportunities in the system are currently set up as Express Interest opportunities. When you find an opportunity that you like, click the Express Interest button at the bottom of the page. This will automtically send an email to the agency, notifying them of your volunteer interests. The agency will contact you to discuss volunteering at their location more indepth.

How old do I have to be to create a volunteer account?
All volunteers who register with this site must be 13 years of age or older.

I forgot my username. Now what?
Your username will always be the email address you used when you registered with this site, even if it is not the email address you are currently using for communications. If you can't remember what email address you used, call the Helpline Center at (605) 274-1407.

I forgot my password. Now what?
Click on the blue LogIn button at the top of this screen. Enter your username and click Forgot Password to receive an email with a temporary password. When you log in using the temporary password, you will be asked to select a new, permanent password. 

I am switching email addresses. Does that change my username for my volunteer account?
No. Your username will always be the email address that you used to open your account. You can put your new email address into your volunteer profile and use that for communications. Use the blue Login button to get into your account. Then, click Personal Information and scroll down and type your new email address into the Main Email box. Your username will still be the same email you used when you registered for the site, but communications will come to your new email address. 

How do I log my hours?
There are three ways to report volunteer service hours once you have logged into your account. 

For an agency and opportunitiy listed in the system:
The agency where you served should confirm the hours for you, and you will not need to do anything else.

For an agency listed in the system, but the opportunity is not listed:
1. Log in to your volunteer profile.
2. Click Self Report Your Volunteer Service.
3. Use the drop down menu to select the appropriate agency. 
4. Fill in the requested information.
5. Click Submit

For an agency that is not listed in this system:
1. Log in to your volunteer profile.
2. Click Self Report Your Volunteer Service.
3. Click Don't see your organization, click here.
4. Fill in the requested information.
5. Click Submit


I thought I already had a volunteer account on this site but can't get logged in. Now what?
Click on the blue LogIn button at the top of this screen. Put your email in as your username. Click Forgot Password and a new, temporary password will be emailed to you. If nothing happens when you click Forgot Password, call the Helpline Center at (605) 274-1407.

I tried to create a volunteer account but the system says my email is already in use. Now what?
You likely already have an account set up with this system. Click on the blue LogIn button at the top of this page. Enter your email as your username and click Forgot Password to receive an email with a temporary password. If nothing happens, call the Helpline Center at (605) 274-1407.

How do I use the Skills Profile in my volunteer account?
You are able to use this feature to indicate your special skill sets, but it is not recommended at this time. It may lead to issues Expressing Interest in volunteer opportunities on the site. 

What if I have questions about a volunteer opportunity and want to ask them before I sign up to help?
Call the agency. We have worked to provide you with a phone number for each agency volunteer manager in the text describing the volunteer opportunity. 

I had an account with the old Helpline Center volunteer site. Is that gone?
No! A new account has already been created for you in the new system. Here is what you need to do to get into your new account.

  1. Click on the blue LogIn button on the top of this screen.

  2. Enter your email as your Username and then Forgot Password to have a temporary password and log in instructions emailed to you. This will include a temporary password.

  3. When you log in using the temporary password, you will be able to set your new, permanent password.
